History

Dating back to 1895, the Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel began life as an elegant family residence in a prestigious location on the banks of the River Ness. Over the years, it has evolved into one of Inverness’s much-loved hospitality destinations, with the Larsen family acquiring the business in 2003 and continuing to lead it today. From the launch of its fine dining restaurants to the success of the renowned Contrast Brasserie, thriving Piano Bar and impressive whisky collection, the hotel has continually grown while retaining its unique character and charm.

Timeline

  1. 1895

    Affluent Family home, occupying prestigious position on the banks of the River Ness.

  2. 1971

    C Listed Building, protecting architectural History from any changes.

  3. 1990

    Owned by a Belgium family, The Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel was established as a company.

  4. 1998

    Bought by Adrian Pieraccini, he launched a fine dining restaurant  “La Riviera”  as the restaurant at the Glenmoriston Townhouse.

  5. 2003

    Bought by Barry Larsen, keeping the Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel and La Riveria.

  6. 2004

    Under the helm of Barry, the success of the Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel doubled in size and the Windsor was purchased and known today as the Windsor Suite.

  7. 2005

    La Riveria Closed and rebranded as “Abstract” fine dining restaurant.

  8. 2005

    The Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel, boasted the largest Whisky Collection, with over 300 malts and still are one of the most impressive collections in the Highlands.

  9. 2008

    The well-known and much-loved Contract Brasserie Launched as an alternative to the fine dining experience.

  10. 2010

    The Success of Contrast overtook Abstract, and today, it still runs as one of the most popular venues in Inverness alongside its thriving Piano Bar.

  11. 2014

    Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel launched self-serviced Apartments on the complex of the Hotel Grounds

  12. 2024

    Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel Launched “Hillside Luxury Apartments” in the heart of the City Centre.

  13. 2026

    The Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel remains a Pillar within the community, enjoying year on year success operating as a well-established family run business.
