We love our Mulled Wine at the Glenmoriston, not only is it a delicious winter warmer but we also make a very tasty sorbet with it too. There's lots of recipes about but here is one of our favourites - the mix of spices is up to you, use what you have - why not try allspice, vanilla, ginger or even a bay leaf? Or substitute the Brandy with Cointreau, Rum, Gin or Whisky.
Ingredients:
A bottle or two of Red Wine
Zest of a Lemon
Zest and juice of an Orange
2 Clementines
2 Cinnamon Sticks
2 or three Star Anise
Sprinkle of Nutmeg
A couple of Cardamon Pods, crushed
A handful of Cloves
Splash of Brandy
Sugar to taste
Method:
Stud the clementines with the cloves, place in a pan with red wine, zest of lemon, zest and juice of the orange, cinnamon sticks and spices. Simmer for approx 1 hour being careful not to boil. Add a splash of brandy and sugar to taste, stir through to dissolve. Strain into glasses, sit back and enjoy. Responsibly of course!
