A stunning spectacle of colour and amazing playing...

Piping Inverness, the European Pipe Band Championships, will be taking place in the stunning setting of Bught Park just across the river from the Glenmoriston, for the first time on Saturday 29th June 2019.

Pipers, drummers, drum majors and Highland dancers from far and wide will be visiting Inverness for the next three years. There will also be many traders who will be providing a stunning showcase of Scottish food and drink, craft and retail items along with a wide range of sponsors.

The Highland capital, will be hosting the Championships for 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Pipe Bands from Around the World...

Thousands of pipe bands and drum majors will be competing across a number of grades, from as afar afield as Australia and Oman, as well as Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Republic of Ireland in a stunning spectacle of colour and amazing playing!

In the centre of Bught Park, will be the main arena, split into four different competition areas. Drum Majors will also compete in the main area while a Highland Dancing competition will take place in a dedicated stage area in a different part of the park.

The Pipe Bands

There are several different grades of pipe bands competing at The Europeans, from Grade 1, the highest standard of players, through Grades 2, 3A, 3B, 4A and 4B, and the under-18s Grades: the Juvenile and Novice Juvenile bands, with the newest players competing as Novice Juveniles. On these grades, only the Pipe Major can be over 18.

There is no upper limit to the number that can perform in a pipe band, but there is a minimum, which changes dependent on the grade the band performs in.

Highland Dancers

A Highland Dancing competition will run alongside the Piping and Drumming and Drum Major competitions. The dancing competition will take place in the beautiful Bught Park.

Entertainment for all the family

There will also be a wide variety of other entertainments to suit all ages and interests. These will include two large, separate areas of stalls, a Craft and Retail Village and a Food and Drink Village. Each will have stalls within a marquee and outdoor pitches, and will be well signed and accessible to visitors and competitors. All showcasing the finest crafts and produce Inverness and the surrounding area has to offer.
